Dr. Jim Clarke is Professor of the Practice in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Professor in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Vanderbilt University. He has over 30 years of experience, 25 of which were gained in the private sector. His major research interests are in the areas of risk analysis, the behavior of chemicals and radionuclides released to the environment, the investigation, remediation and long term management of legacy hazardous and radioactive waste sites and environmental forensics. Dr. Clarke has provided litigation support and expert witness services to several industries and government agencies. He served as an expert witness in several cases including the Central Illinois Public Services case (a toxic tort case that was listed as one of the 25 most interesting cases in Illinois); the Anniston Alabama Monsanto PCB litigation; major insurance cost recovery cases for Shell Chemical (the Rocky Mountain Arsenal) and ALCOA (three test sites in Washington, Texas and New York); and liability determinations for toxaphene (Hercules) contamination at several pesticide formulation plants. Jim is a fellow of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, a member of the Advisory Committee on Nuclear Waste for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and a member of the Executive Board of the Environmental Sciences Division of the American Nuclear Society. He received a B.A. in chemistry from Rockford College and a Ph.D. in theoretical chemistry from The Johns Hopkins University. |
