      Professor Xu is experienced in mechanical design, structural design using advanced composite materials; evaluation of the failure and damage of engineering structures especially aerospace structures; and measurements of mechanical properties of metals, polymers, and composites. He is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, American Society for Composites, and the Society for Experimental Mechanics.   • Nano-composite materials and traditional composite materials
  • Homeland security research including structural dynamic failure analysis and prevention
  • Applied and experimental mechanics (fracture, interface, damage, impact, fatigue)
