Professor Bowers has been on the faculty at Vanderbilt for more than 19 years and has been active in teaching courses in Environmental Chemistry, Water and Wastewater Treatment, Environmental Microbiology, and Physical Chemical Treatment Processes. He has done research on a variety of topics, including adsorption of metals and metal complexes on hydrous oxides and soil materials, stabilization of waste materials in cements, chemical oxidation of refractory organics in wastewaters and soils, modeling of biological treatment processes, and management of aircraft deicing fluids at airports. In addition, he has been a consultant to a several corporations and government agencies.
