Professor Basu has extensive experience in planning, analysis and design of buildings and bridges; analysis of machine components, railroad hardware, automobile components, and aircraft components; inspection and evaluation of the structural integrity of civil infrastructure components. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in Tennessee; Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers; member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers; member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics; and a member of the U.S. Association of Computational Mechanics.

Research Interests:

Multi-scale modeling, optimization, safety evaluation and control of materials, systems and components related to automotive, aerospace, building, bridge, railroad, power and bioengineering.
Inspection, evaluation and management of civil infrastructure systems, with special emphasis on highway bridges.
