      Professor Basu has extensive experience in planning, analysis and design of buildings and bridges; analysis of machine components, railroad hardware, automobile components, and aircraft components; inspection and evaluation of the structural integrity of civil infrastructure components. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in Tennessee; Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers; member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers; member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics; and a member of the U.S. Association of Computational Mechanics.

B.S: Physics, Lucknow University
B.S: Civil Engineering, Jadavpur University
M.S: Structural Engineering, Calcutta University
D.Sc: Structural Mechanics, Washington University

Research Interests:
  • Multi-scale modeling, optimization, safety evaluation and control of materials, systems and components related to automotive, aerospace, building, bridge, railroad, power and bioengineering.
  • Inspection, evaluation and management of civil infrastructure systems, with special emphasis on highway bridges.
